The gift of one’s time and attention can help inspire, direct, and affirm. Father John Carville, associate Pastor of the campus church Christ the King at Louisiana State University has been this type of mentor to our group, the Parousians. Father Carville has graciously given us his time and insight in wonderful ways. He has joined us as a special guest presenter, a participant at meetings, and even rallied with us at the celebration of Caleb’s going away roast.
During this last fall semester, Father Carville shared with the group his first hand experience of being a student in Rome during Vatican II while elaborating on the events that lead up to the council. Father Carville freely shared his wealth of knowledge both intellectual and personal. Deep intellectual thoughts coupled with personal experience and a sensible humor. Father Carville sets an example to keep our mental inquires grounded in the community accomplishing the very task the Parousians hope to accomplish; to examine the relationship between faith and culture through means of reason.
A few times Father Carville has attended student presentations. Willing to participate and enhance dialogue, Father Carville has engaged in our exchange of ideas and challenged us to new insight. His concern for our cause, attendance to meetings, and participation in our celebrations are invaluable to our group. On behalf of the Parousians, I would like to thank Father Carville.
